Inkscape is a free vector graphics editor for GNU/Linux, Windows, and macOS. It uses vector graphics to allow for sharp printouts and renderings at unlimited resolution and is not bound to a fixed number of pixels like raster graphics. Inkscape uses the standardized SVG file format as its primary format, which is supported by many other applications including web browsers.
SVG images are defined in a vector graphics format and stored in XML text files (more information than you perhaps want to know). SVG images can thus be scaled in size without loss of quality.
It can import and export various file formats, including SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, PS and PNG.
At DJ Creations Studio we use Inkscape for our artwork. We want the artwork to be in vector format. Another way to say that is that the drawing comprises many line segments. If you have even tried to change the scale of a png or jpg file you can notice pixelating or rough edges when it gets too big. This is why we need the SVG file as it will scale up and not lose quality.
